In a world's first, Studio Pollen sent renowned Chinese ink artist Hung Hoi to Mars – virtually – using specially adapted VR images from NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover. This collaboration resulted in the first-ever traditional Chinese ink painting of extraterrestrial Martian landscapes.

We spent a morning with Hung Hoi and his son Hung Fai exploring the Red Planet's terrain through VR, allowing him to draw 3D calligraphy in this alien environment.

Inspired by his virtual visit, Hung Hoi created a series of preliminary sketches before developing them into a magnificent 2-metre-wide masterpiece, capturing Mars' dramatic red canyons and craters in traditional Chinese ink style.
